New Safety Measures for IPL Celebrations

In response to the tragic incident in Bengaluru, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken decisive action. The cricket board has introduced stringent guidelines for teams celebrating their IPL victories. This decision follows the unfortunate events during the celebration of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after their IPL 2025 final win, which resulted in the loss of 11 lives due to a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

During a conversation with a media outlet, BCCI Secretary Devjeet Saikia confirmed that the board is treating this matter with utmost seriousness. They are committed to addressing every risk factor to prevent future incidents. Saikia stated that formal guidelines will now be mandatory for all teams wishing to celebrate publicly after winning the IPL.

In light of the Bengaluru stampede, the BCCI has outlined several guidelines that teams must adhere to before organizing any events or parades following an IPL victory.

  • Teams will not be allowed to hold celebration events for 3-4 days after winning the trophy.

  • To avoid hasty decisions and poor management, immediate actions will not be permitted.

  • Teams must obtain formal permission from the BCCI before organizing any events.

  • Events can only be held after receiving clearance from the board.

  • A security protocol with 4 to 5 layers must be followed.

  • Multiple layers of security should be present at every venue and during travel.

  • Security arrangements must be in place from the airport to the event venue.

  • Players and support staff must receive full security throughout the event.

  • Permission from district police, state government, and local authorities is required for the event.

  • Approval from civil and law enforcement agencies is necessary to ensure the event is conducted legally and safely.
